Team Mission Statement

The main mission and goal of OSGuild is to work together as a team at all times.  We support each other, help each other out, and strive toward common goals.  Our team definitely has a certain “chemistry” that allows us to play together extremely well, to work out any differences; and to strive to be the best as a team, without sacrificing the importance of strength and purpose in each individual character.  When one of our members needs something in order to make his or her character better, we all go on a hunt to find what that specific member needs, because in the long run, it is an asset to our team and not just to a specific member.  A team cannot function at its best if it does not work together as a team in all aspects of the game.

Something else of extreme importance to our team is being legitimate.  All the duping and hacking that goes on takes the fun out of the hunt, removes the joy in finding a specific weapon you have been hunting for so long, and eliminates pride in your character.  That is why we remain legitimate … knowing we have worked hard to achieve our levels and the items we equip.  We take pride in that.

How did your Team come into existence?

Some of our members began playing PSO on DC before switching over to the GC.  Most of our team members were originally members of the JSS Army on the GameCube version of PSO.  A lot of JSS had moved on to different games before the release of BB.  Those of us who still played PSO together on a regular basis on the GC got together on BB and formed the OSGuild.  One of our members, Zandoria, was drafted in as a newcomer and has been an asset to our team, as well.

Did you start with any major goals?

I can’t say we started out with any major set goals in mind.  Our main objectives were to have fun, to help each other out, and to function well as a team.  We did have some goals in mind, such as accruing team points to be able to get our team flag, as well as other options offered.

Yahoo! Cup

How did you prepare for the Yahoo! Cup Team Rankings?

We actually did very little to prepare for Yahoo! Cup.  Had we known in advance some of the stipulations, we would have reduced our membership and gotten non-active members off the team membership roster prior to the Cup beginning.  Though we were shown as having nine members, when Yahoo! Cup began, 3 of those members were long gone.  Then we lost another member one week into the Yahoo! Cup, which left five of us doing the work of nine people.  We did add another member to our team after the Yahoo! Cup began; but, since he joined after the fact, his points did not count toward our overall team average.

We began playing as soon as the Yahoo! Cup was available and set out working together mainly to achieve our personal rankings, as well as to do our part in working to attain as many points as possible toward the overall Yahoo! Cup kill count.  We had no idea we would even be contenders for first place team of five or more members.  When we realized we had a chance to achieve that, we strove to attain it.

How many runs a day did you run on average?

As stated previously, we work together as a team quite well.  I couldn’t even wager a guess as to how many runs we did per day.  We were more concerned with keeping our ranking, both team and individual, to actually count the number of runs we did each day – but they were numerous.  We have members on the East Coast as well as the West Coast, which at times was an asset and at other times a hindrance due to the time difference.  We tried to play in groups of four at all times.  When one of our members was on alone, that person would go to Hyperion to group with others for maximum kills.  Most of us played more hours during the Yahoo! Cup, and spent a lot of time doing run after run after run.  We had fun, though … and helping to reach the 30 million points was more important to us than the actual team win.

Any final thoughts about the Yahoo! Cup?

The entire PSO BB community needs to be congratulated on their efforts.  Many people spent long hours playing.  We do not consider ourselves the only “winners”.  Acknowledgement should go to Darkxide as well as Carlson’s for their accomplishments, as well as to the large teams who were also up against impossible odds.  We think that everyone deserves recognition … so congratulations to all who participated.  We set out as a community of players to achieve the 30 million prize and, together, we achieved it.  Our thanks to all players, and a special thank you to those on Hyperion who helped us along the way.

How long have you played PSO?
I regret missing the first Phantasy Star for the Sega Master system but I have played all the rest. I bought a DC and a GC the same day PSO was released and, not surprisingly, I bought a new PC when PSO BB came out.

I have been playing Phantasy Star for so long that that question almost seems absurd: like, how did you get involved with your family? That’s one of the things, though, that keeps me looking forward to playing every day. I’ve been playing with some friends for years on PSO, we’re like a family, even though we have never met.

How long have you played PSO?
I started playing on the Dreamcast after I bought the game for my son, but only played offline in multi-player mode with my kids. I then played on the GameCube until PSO Blue Burst came out.

I met people to play with on the GC about three years ago, so I consider them great friends now. My biggest motivation for playing is seeing my friends, but I also enjoy the hunt.

My name is Joe and I live in Santa Cruz, California. I enjoy riding my bike and disc golfing. I also enjoy the warm California sunshine, though I’m from Upstate New York.
I am 36 years old, I still love video games and Phantasy Star Online is definitely one of them. I also played the Phantasy Star games for the SEGA Genesis system. I love role playing games, and I like it even more if the other person on my screen is a real person.
On PSO for Dreamcast, I actually made friends around the globe. On GameCube PSO, my online friends were there too. It was such a great feeling. Now I am on PSO Blue Burst and I am still playing with my old buddies from the past systems. What keeps me playing is a good game and most of all, the good friends I made over the years thanks to PSO. I think that’s why our team did as good as we did; we were friends from the past that stuck together. That’s why we call ourselves OSGuild . We are still going to be a team for Phantasy Star Universe and I can’t wait.

How long have you played PSO?
I've been playing PSO since the Dreamcast, however for some reason I couldn’t get online on my Dreamcast and it took me six months to get online for my GameCube.

I met the members of OSGuild on GameCube and we have stuck together since. If it wasn’t for them I might not be playing Phantasy Star Online right now. This game is fun but it can get old if you don’t have friends to play it with. I'm hoping that I will be able to make a character on Phantasy Star Universe that looks similar to my Fomar.

How long have you played PSO?
I have played PSO since April of 2003. I started out playing on GameCube, and then switched to PSO Blue Burst when it became available. My main character on GC was Kahlil (level 187), member of JSS Army.
Tell us a bit about yourself
In March of 2003 I became disabled. My doctor informed me that I could no longer play tennis, ski, hike in the mountains, ride horses - the list goes on and on. I thought I could deal with that. I also was forced to quit my job as a graphic artist. I can honestly say I enjoyed going to work every day. So, after months of boredom and depression, my son suggested that I give PSO a try. I decided – why not? So began my journey on PSO. On the game I found I could run and play, and have a good time. I was not bound by my physical limitations and people accepted me for who I am, rather than what I am. And so, that is why I play PSO, why I shall continue playing the game, and why the friendships I have formed on the game are so important to me.
